NOGALES, Mexico (Sept. 3, 2025) — The Mexican homecoming for former two-weight world champion and current junior lightweight contender Oscar Valdez now has a stateside home. Valdez makes his long-awaited return this Saturday, Sept. 6, against San Antonio native Ricky Medina in the 10-round main event at Domo Binacional in Nogales.
Valdez vs. Medina and select undercard bouts will be broadcast LIVE exclusively on ESPN Deportes in the United States at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT.
Valdez (32-3, 24 KOs), a native of Nogales who represented his homeland at the 2008 and 2012 Olympics, is fighting on Mexican soil for the first time since December 2013. He won world titles at featherweight and junior lightweight, securing his legacy as a generational action fighter against the likes of Scott Quigg, Miguel Marriaga, Miguel Berchelt, and Emanuel Navarrete. Valdez looks to kickstart another championship run following a KO loss to Navarrete in their rematch last December.
The 24-year-old Medina (16-3, 9 KOs) is 10 years younger than Valdez and hopes youth prevails over experience. “El Castigo” is a seven-year pro who has never been knocked out. He is 4-0 when fighting in Mexico and coming off a third-round TKO over Angel “El Pillado” Hernandez last December in San Antonio.
In other scheduled televised action:
- Israel Ramirez (23-2, 12 KOs) vs. Jose Amaro (12-0-1, 4 KOs), 10 Rounds, Junior Featherweight
- Angel Patron (17-0, 12 KOs) vs. Carlos Vargas (18-2, 13 KOs), 8 Rounds, Junior Featherweight
- Ricardo Gonzalez (9-0, 7 KOs) vs. Leobardo Quintana (11-1, 5 KOs), 8 Rounds, Junior Lightweight
- Luis Corona Parra (5-0-1, 4 KOs) vs. Yohan Orduño (3-0, 3 KOs), 6 Rounds, Junior Lightweight (SWING BOUT)
